-Equipment selection
-Fly selection
-Tying knots and leaders
-Fishing techniques for salmon and trout.
-Reading the water.
-Angler ethics.
-Proper clothing, including vests and other equipment.
-Classes taught by Dave Atcheson

Mon., August 5

-Introduction to lake and river fishing.
-Trip planning and safety.
-Reading the water.
-Matching flies with conditions.
-Taught by Dave Atcheson.
11-4:00 pm
-Casting Clinic with Tony Weaver.
4:00-6:00pm
--Alaska wildlife habits: moose and bear safety taught
by Larry Lewis, Alaska Department of Fish and Game.
7:00pm
-Dinner
-Fly tying class with Tony Weaver immediately following dinner in the cafeteria.

-Fly-in lake and stream fishing. Instructors for these trips
are Dave Atcheson, Paul Tornow, Richard Kelso, and Gary Turner.

-River history, hydrology
-River biology
-Salmon/trout characteristics, life cycle, habits
-Taught by Dr. Dave Wartinbee
10:30 am -12:30 pm
-Boat safety and cold-water survival taught by Joe McCullough,
Education Specialist, AK Office of Boating Safety.
-Will include personal floatation devices, throw ropes, sea anchors, emergency signaling devices, and rescue scenarios.
12:30 - 1:30 pm
- Lunch
1:30 – 3:30 pm
-Caring for your catch: fish-filleting, freezing, smoking,
canning, with Dave Atcheson and Linda Tannehill.
-Students taking the class for credit will need to demonstrate how to fillet, freeze, and prepare fish.

-Upper Kenai River guided drift boat trip for salmon and trout
with Troutfitter’s Guide Service.
7:00am - 3:00pm (Class B)
-Walk-in upper Kenai River trip and advanced casting clinic
for salmon and trout with Dave Atcheson.
- Students taking this course for credit may be required to demonstrate casting techniques, proper gear selection for various situations, site selection and their criteria for choosing it.
